Children & Families

At St John’s we want our kids to know that they are welcomed, valued and loved and above all we want them to meet with God.

Take a look below at what’s going on at St Johns and if you have any questions, just email Bella, our Children and Families Worker here.

Sunday mornings

Our children’s work runs alongside the 10am Sunday service. Our team are passionate about teaching the children more about who God is and how much He loves them and giving them the opportunity to hear from God and ask questions about faith.

  • We start each session with an action song giving the kids a chance to move around and praise God! We often play a game; which gives the children a chance to get to know each other and bond whilst having fun. We then read or role play a bible story and discuss what we’ve heard and how it might apply to our lives. We feel that it’s important that the children get the opportunity to share their thoughts on our story and also to ask questions.

We also believe that it’s vital to give the children an opportunity to talk to God and to listen to what God is saying to them, with a time of prayer.

We often end our sessions with a craft so that the children can take a reminder of the weeks message home with them.

  • In order to leave your child in our kids work sessions we ask that you fill out a registration form. Our kids& families worker Bella or one of our welcome team will let you have the form to be filled in and returned for safe keeping.

  • The sessions caters for children aged 4 to 11 (younger children who are toilet trained and confident to be left with team are welcome too). We also have a separate group for youth (ages 12-18) - more details here.

  • All our team are DBS checked, safely recruited through best practice and trained inline with the National Church of England required standards. Details about safeguarding at St John’s can be found here.

Stay & Play

We have a wonderful toddler group community that meets weekly on a Monday morning aimed at pre-school years where we welcome parents, grandparents, guardians and carers in charge of caring for babies and young children. We have lots of toys, plenty of tea and coffee and members of the St. John’s team who will be delighted to see you! Suggested donation of £2 per family is appreciated and we can take card or cash payment.

Disco Nights

We know life is busy but we’re passionate about befriending and supporting those in our stage of life, children bonding, parents and grandparents encouraging one another as we walk through similar ages and stages with faith at our core. For more info on our next one, please do get in touch!

Uniformed Organisations

We are proud to be associated with our local uniformed organisations like Brownies and Rainbows and love to collaborate with them for our special services like Harvest and Mothers Day, where group members are encouraged to join in with processing in and out of the service, whether of our faith or not, and helping to decorate our Altar in keeping with the celebration.

Schools work

Recognising that the church is for the benefit of those outside of its walls, we love supporting our local school community by leading assemblies for Christian Festivals and providing classroom support with Christian learning as part of their RE curriculum. The highlight of our annual calendar is our collaboration with the DeHavilland Sing and Sign club led by the wonderful Mrs L Barker, when they perform a song during our Family Christingle Service held in church at Christmas time.

Seasonal events

Throughout the year we plan fun events like regular family gatherings, our Light Party in October, Christmas Family Services, Easter Fun Days, Summer holiday club etc which we will advertise as and when they come up so keep a look out for these soon!
